I usually reply within a few days. Telling me your watchOS version, your watch model, and what you were doing when it happened lets me help you on the first reply instead of the third.
Requirements
- Apple Watch running watchOS 10.0 or later.
- No iPhone app. DoomRoll runs entirely on the watch — install it from the App Store on the watch itself, or from the Watch app on your iPhone. Nothing appears on the iPhone home screen, and that is not a bug.
- No internet connection needed to use it. The app goes online only to check and process purchases — when it opens, when you buy or restore, and when the App Store reports a change to a purchase — and does nothing else on the network.
- Twelve languages. English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Turkish. DoomRoll follows your watch's language on its own — see the question below if you want a different one.
Getting a result
Every mode answers to all of these, so use whichever suits the moment:
- Tap the screen.
- Turn the Digital Crown — it spins the coin, the wheel and the pointer in real time, and winds up a dice throw so a longer wind throws further.
- Shake your wrist. A harder shake throws the dice harder.
- Double-tap your fingers, on watchOS 11 and later.
What's free, and what the packs add
The free app is a working decision-maker, not a demo: Coin with all of its animations, Pointer, Doom Orb, Yes/No, the Spinner Wheel with no limit on spins, and the D6 with every throw style, handfuls and modifiers. Up to 3 presets of up to 4 names each.
- Boardgames Pack — $1.99. The other ten dice (d4 through d120), the dice session log, unlimited presets and names, and Quick Mode.
- Extended Pack — $2.99. Every animation in Doom Orb and Yes/No, history, Spinner Strip, elimination rounds, Smooth Dice, unlimited presets and names, and Quick Mode.
- Full Pack — $3.99. Both of the above, for less than buying them separately.
Prices are the US ones; the unlock screen shows yours, in your own currency, and works out the Full Pack's saving from them. All three are one-time purchases — there is no subscription — and all three support Family Sharing. If you already own one pack, the unlock screen offers you only the other one, at its own price.
Common questions
- How do I restore a purchase? On the watch you bought on there is nothing to do — DoomRoll checks what you own every time it opens. After reinstalling DoomRoll, or on a new watch, tap Settings → Restore purchases once, or Restore on the unlock screen that opens from any locked item. If there is nothing to restore, it says so. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID, not to a device, and Family Sharing members restore the same way.
- Why is a mode or a die locked? See the list above. Tapping the locked item explains which pack unlocks it.
- Can I use Siri? Yes — "Flip a coin with DoomRoll", "Roll a die with DoomRoll", "Ask DoomRoll yes or no". Siri answers out loud without opening the app, and the answer shows on the rectangular and inline complications too. The app's name has to be part of the phrase; that is Apple's rule for every app.
- Can I roll from the watch face? On watchOS 11 and later, yes: add the rectangular DoomRoll complication and tap its dice button — it rolls a die in place, without opening the app, and the number stays on the face with or without a pack. Watch-face widgets only became interactive in watchOS 11, so on watchOS 10 the complication opens the app instead; say "Roll a die with DoomRoll" to roll without opening it. Results from inside the app reach the face through History, so they appear there with the Extended Pack. Tapping anywhere else on a complication — or the circular and inline shapes — opens the app, on the screen you used last.
- Can other people see my preset names on my watch face? Not unless you allow it. The complication shows "Wheel: ●●●" by default; turn on Settings → Privacy → Names on watch face if you would rather see the actual name.
- Where is my history? On the main list, in the same block as the dice session log. It keeps the 50 most recent results and needs the Extended Pack — results are recorded only while you own it. The dice session log is separate — it groups dice rolls into one game and comes with the Boardgames Pack.
- Why did the app ask whether to record my rolls? That's the session log. Answer once and it applies to the whole game, whichever dice you pick up. A sitting closes 30 minutes after its last roll, or when you tap "End current session".
- Are the results actually random? Yes. Every result comes from the same cryptographic random generator the system uses for its own security work, not from a shuffle of the last few outcomes. If you would rather have fewer repeats than true randomness, the Extended Pack's Smooth Dice setting caps how long a streak can run.
- Can I use the app in a different language from my watch? Yes. Open Settings → Language and pick one — each language is listed under its own name, so you can find yours even if the app is currently in one you don't read. Leave it on System and DoomRoll follows the watch. This is free and needs no pack. Siri still answers in your watch's language, because it speaks with the system's voice.
- The animations are too slow. Turn on Quick Mode (any pack) to get results instantly. If you use the system's Reduce Motion setting, animations are already skipped and Quick Mode shows itself as on.
- Is my data collected? Almost nothing. DoomRoll has no account and transmits none of your content; the only thing that leaves the watch is an anonymous purchase record, processed by RevenueCat so your unlocks work — see the privacy policy below.
Privacy
DoomRoll collects no personal data; a purchase creates an anonymous record so your packs can be restored. Read the full Privacy Policy.
